AI Lead Scoring and Qualification

Surface uses AI to automatically score and qualify every lead based on firmographic data, form responses, and engagement signals. This helps your sales team focus on high-intent prospects.

How AI scoring works

Surface analyzes multiple signals to calculate a lead score:

  • Company fit β€” Industry, size, revenue, and tech stack match your ICP

  • Intent signals β€” Pages viewed, time on site, content downloaded

  • Form behavior β€” Completion rate, response quality, question-skipping patterns

  • Enrichment data β€” Job title seniority, company growth rate, funding status

Each lead receives a score from 0-100 and a tier: Hot, Warm, or Cold.

Configure scoring criteria

  1. Go to Settings > Lead Scoring

  2. Define your ideal customer profile attributes

  3. Adjust signal weights based on what matters most to your business

  4. Set score thresholds for Hot (80+), Warm (50-79), and Cold (<50)

Start with Surface's default scoring model and refine based on which leads actually convert to customers.

Qualification rules

Go beyond scoring with qualification rules that automatically categorize leads:

Auto-qualify by company size. Flag enterprise prospects (500+ employees) for immediate sales outreach.

Require specific answers. Only qualify leads who select "Ready to buy now" on timeline questions.

Disqualify spam. Automatically reject leads with personal emails, disposable domains, or obvious fake names.

Geographic filtering. Route or reject leads based on country or region.

Set up auto-routing

Connect scoring to your lead distribution:

  1. Navigate to Workflows > Routing Rules

  2. Create rules based on lead score tiers

  3. Assign Hot leads directly to sales reps

  4. Send Warm leads to nurture sequences

  5. Filter Cold leads to a separate list for re-engagement

Test routing rules with a small sample before enabling them for all leads to avoid misrouting high-value prospects.

Use scores in your CRM

Surface syncs lead scores to HubSpot and Salesforce automatically:

  • HubSpot β€” Score appears in the "Surface Score" contact property

  • Salesforce β€” Score syncs to a custom field on the Lead or Contact object

Use these scores to build segments, trigger workflows, or prioritize outreach in your sales tools.

Monitor scoring accuracy

Check the Lead Quality Dashboard to see:

  • Distribution of Hot, Warm, and Cold leads over time

  • Conversion rates by score tier

  • Which scoring signals best predict closed-won deals

Adjust your ICP criteria and signal weights quarterly based on actual conversion data.

Teams using AI lead scoring report 50%+ time savings on manual qualification and higher sales connect rates.
